Stockbridge, the center of Stockbridge Township is located in the southeastern corner of Ingham County This picturesque town includes an old-fashioned town square, complete with historical township hall and surrounding park. Its economy is supported primarily by small business, agriculture and its location at the busy junction of M-106 and M-52.

Stockbridge was first settled in 1835 by Herman Lowe and Elijah Smith. Smith originally named the town Pekin, after his hometown in New York. It was renamed Stockbridge after the Township in 1838 by the first Postmaster, Silas Beebe. It eventually incorporated as a village in 1889.
