Warren is 34.4 square miles and is located in Macomb County. Warren is known as the City of Progress. Warren was settled in 1835, became a village in 1909 and was finally incorporated as a city in 1957. This area was settled because it was located near the Erie Canal. Most were farmers. Today, Warren is the location of the GM Tech Center and has always been known as a great city. Some of the attractions of warren are the Warren Historical Village and the Warren Cooperative Mill for good shopping. Warren also has many things to do for the lovers of all of the fine arts. There are also 4 school districts and many different types of industry. The Warren Parks and Recreation Department offers year-round recreation programs, including: baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, aerobics, fitness center, swimming, arts and crafts, music, theater, dancing, bowling, youth day camps, senior citizen one day trips, and extended travel, special events, and much, much more! The department has indoor facilities at Ridgewood Recreation Center, Owen Jax Recreation Center, Fitzgerald Recreation Center, Stilwell Manor, the City Pool, and the opening of the New Warren Community Center is scheduled for the Spring of 2003. Every center offers a variety of activities for children, adults and senior citizens.
