Weidman is a small village located in Isabella County right in the heart of Michigan. Weidman was founded in the late 1800's by John Sylvester Weidman and was considered for the most part, a lumber town. Today, Weidman is a community of about eight hundred seventy people, comprised in a radius of five and a half square miles.

Although Weidman is a smaller community, you need not travel far for shopping and entertainment. Mt. Pleasant, the county seat of Isabella County, is just a thirty-minute drive. Mt. Pleasant enjoys a diverse economy that includes tourism, manufacturing and is also home to Central Michigan University. A quaint downtown district graces Mt. Pleasant. Locally owned shops and boutiques combined with more modern facilities are common throughout this community. This robust and growing city has much to offer in ways of tradition and values.

Central Michigan University proudly educates over 19,000 students and offers an array of academic majors. The school offers eleven Bachelor of Arts, nine Masters Degrees, and three Doctorates. CMU affords modern facilities and technology. An excellent staff dedicates their energies to student centered teaching and research. With over one hundred years of history in the community, Central Michigan is one of the finest Universities in the mid-west.

One thing that is truly pleasant about Michigan living is the fact that one can enjoy all four seasons throughout the calendar year. The winter months certainly bring chilly temperatures in the twenties, along with lots of white snow tumbling onto your rooftop. Spring anxiously peeks its way into the year about the end of March. Summer time comes with lovely weather, perfect for camping, days at the beach or any other outdoor recreation. The mercury stays in the seventies, but the humidity makes it feel much warmer. Fall is a gorgeous time in this region of Michigan and as the temperature cools off a bit, the trees display warm tones of red, gold, green, and brown.

As you can see, Weidman is the perfect area for outdoor recreation year round. Designated areas afford for excellent hunting and area lakes and streams are chocked full of bass, northern, and pike. The Pines at Lake Isabella is a beautiful golf course located right in the Weidman city limits. This scenic course has narrow, tree lined fairways and well-maintained greens. The Chippewa River runs right through this area and is perfect for a canoe trip and some sections are even geared more so for white water rafting.

Those looking for indoor points of interest might enjoy browsing among the many antique shops dotted throughout the area. The Art Research Center in Mt. Pleasant offers musical concerts, theatre performances and classes for those looking for personal enrichment. The Little Red School House in nearby Village of Shepherd is a one-room schoolhouse that is open for tourists either by appointment, or at scheduled times during the Maple Syrup Festival. The A Wall is a high ropes course and rock-climbing rendezvous located right on the CMU campus and open to the public.

Weidman is a smaller community, but with a big heart. This small community is perfect for peaceful living, yet the fact that Mt. Pleasant is so close offering shopping, dining, and even weekend football games, Weidman is an excellent place to live.
