Stretching along Lake Michigan's shoreline for nearly 2,000 feet, Kirk Park boasts 66 acres of sandy beach, wooded dunes and high bluffs. Facilities include a picnic shelter, rustic lodge, playground, concession (seasonal) and modern rest rooms. Nature trails with wooden stairways wind through the wooded dunes and offer spectacular views of Lake Michigan. A paved path with a deck overlooking the lake and interpretive displays is accessible to all people. A mysterious grave site near one of the overlooks is thought to belong to Ponesso W. Cobmosay, a Native American child who died in 1865 at the age of 5 years.

The Ottawa County area carries much of the early Native American heritage, as is immediately evident by the county's name. Numerous antique shops in West Olive, Grand Haven, and Holland showcase artifacts that keep the area heavily steeped in the area's important history.

West Olive is one of the fastest growing areas in the state of Michigan and has a uniquely diverse economy who workforce is composed mainly of blue collar labor, but also extends into sales, forestry, and professional sectors. Over 70% of area residents are high school graduates, and 4% have college degrees, though this latter number is on the rise. There are plenty of private schools in the Zeeland Public School District and over 20% of area children are enrolled at such schools. The remainder of children are schooled within the Zeeland PSD.
