Wolverine Lake, Michigan

Population: 4,415

Located in Oakland County

If you're looking for a small town with affordable housing, beauty, lakes, nature trails, good shopping and close to major freeways - look no further than Wolverine Lake located in the heart of Oakland County. Wolverine Lake is one of those small communities that nestle next to Walled Lake, and Commerce Township, and therefore share many of the same amenities, including the number one rated school district in Michigan, namely Walled Lake.

Wolverine Lake is one of the many lakes that dot this part of Michigan, and most of the homes in the village of Wolverine Lake are built right on the lake, or have lake access. A three bedroom home on the lake, with a boat dock sells for around $500,000. Homes a few blocks away, with use of the public access dock sell from $120,000 and up.

It seems everywhere you look in this area there is another lake! From Upper Straits to Lower Straits (with Middle Straits in between), and Walled Lake, and plenty of small, unnamed lakes there is always a water activity to do around here!

Wolverine Lake's roads tend to wend around the lakes, and beg to be driven slowly so you can enjoy the scenery. There is nothing more breath-taking than seeing the lake covered in a sheet of ice, and watching the kids skate on it, or in the summer, watching the jet skis skim across the top.

If trail walking is your idea of a great afternoon out, then you have to look no further you're your back yard! Even the newer sub-divisions have been built with a "nature first" thrust. Deer stroll across the backyards, and it is common to see fox prints in the early morning snow.

Dodge State Park, which is part of the Proud Lake State Recreation Park extends into Wolverine Lake. This park has great trails for walking, or even dirt biking, as there are some areas open to that sport.

If shopping is your thing, then look no further than Wolverine Lake. Located 15 minutes from Commerce are either Novi and its famed 12 Oaks Mall and surrounding Town Center; or Milford, with its beautiful downtown area with its specialty stores which cater to a variety of tastes, from antique furniture to doll restoration to wonderful bakeries. Also nearby is Summit Place Mall, a smaller, more intimate mall in Waterford.

Wolverine Lake is a smaller community, but with a big heart. This small community is perfect for peaceful living, yet the fact that Novi and Walled Lake is so close offering shopping, dining, and even weekend football games, Wolverine Lake is an excellent place to live.
