The Village of Columbia Heights was formed in 1898. With just over 1500 acres, 100 citizens, and 20 houses. In 1921 the Charter of the City of Columbia Heights was adopted and an actual city was born. Today this proud city boasts a growing population of over 18,000 people and a beautiful Minnesota landscape filled with homes, businesses and other centerpieces for life. With 14 park and recreations areas, Columbia Heights has something to offer everyone. Silver Lake beach is a hot spot for water recreation. There are also several other lakes nearby to provide ample fishing, boating or just soaking up the sunshine. Because Minnesotan's are known for enjoying the winter, several of the parks offer ice rinks and snowmobile trails for all to enjoy during the winter months. If indoor activities are more your style, Columbia Heights has several museums and art galleries within a 20 mile radius to suit every age group. Along with academics, these students are exposed to several areas of the fine arts. Several colleges, universities and vocational schools are within minutes of Columbia Heights.
