Located just thirteen miles south and east of St. Paul at the confluence of the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers. Cottage Grove got its name from a home built by Nineteenth Century settler J. W. Furber; he called his residence the "Cottage in the Grove ".
The community is an older residential, commercial, and industrial one that still continues to experience growth. Not only is this suburb particularly scenic, but there are also many excellent housing values available.
