Eagan is frequently cited as one of the fastest growing cities in the metropolitan area. Interstate highways 35E, 494 and Cedar Avenue Freeway have made this southern suburb accessible to virtually the entire Twin Cities area. In 1984, Eagan was named a "Star City" by the Minnesota Department of Economic Development. This designation indicates to business and industry that the city is well prepared for economic development. Eagan’s residential offerings meet most every taste and price range. The community attracts many young, growing families as well as a significant amount of industrial and business development. Northwest Airlines, Blue Cross/Blue shield of Minnesota, West Publishing Co., Economics Laboratory and Unisys are among the larger companies that call Eagan home. Because the southern portion of the community remains relatively undeveloped, residents are able to enjoy a variety of parklands, including Lebanon Hills Regional Park with four lakes.
