Blue Earth County is located in the heart of southern Minnesota 75 miles southwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul. Established in 1853, Blue Earth County is 764 square miles (488,960 acres), and is known for its many rivers, streams, and lakes. Three major rivers come together in Blue Earth County and join the Minnesota River ? the Blue Earth, LeSueur, and Watonwan. Blue Earth County includes 23 townships and 11 cities with a population of approximately 58,118.

Predominate soils of Blue Earth County are rich loams, silts and clays, which, along with the climate and rainfall, make Blue Earth County one of the best agricultural areas in the nation. With over 447,200 acres of farmland, the County ranks among the top production areas in Minnesota for corn, soybeans, and hogs, and is also a significant producer of beef, milk, and canning crops. A large number of industries are directly related to agriculture, including soybean processing, ethanol production, feed mills, equipment manufacturing, and seed companies.

Blue Earth County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners who are elected to serve four-year terms. The County employs approximately 400 workers, and provides services within the following areas: social, environmental, emergency, public works, licensing, extension, law enforcement, county administration, and civil defense. The County also services 16 parks and 14 miles of trails.
