Minnesota Real Estate & Relocation Guide

Mahtomedi, Minnesota

Population: 6,856

Located in Washington County

Once a resort destination on the shores of White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi has grown into a modern suburb with a small town feel. Quiet residential neighborhoods comprised of older homes and summer cottages were joined over the years by newer housing developments. Unlike many of the surrounding communities that have experienced growth in spurts, Mahtomedi has steadily added several hundred homes a decade.

Recognizing the growth potential of such a beautiful area, city leaders were protective of the open space and wetlands. Much of Mahtomedi is heavily wooded and dotted with ponds and wetlands. Building ordinances and codes were used to keep the growth at a steady pace. The city gains one thousand residents per decade and is projected to grow at that pace through the year 2020.

Mahtomedi provides students with an opportunity to attend a small suburban public school. Mahtomedi District 832 also serves Dellwood, Pine Springs, Willernie and part of Grant, Hugo, Lake Elmo, Oakdale and White Bear Lake. There are two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.

Located near the intersection of Interstate 694 and Highway 36, the community enjoys easy access to the Twin Cities while feeling far removed from the city pace. A high level of community activism, a low crime rate and a quality education combine to make Mahtomedi a great place to call home.
