Located in Wright County

Nestled in an elbow of the Mississippi River is Otsego, organized as Minnesota's 855th city. With a population over 6500, Otsego is Wright County's fourth largest city.

The boundaries of Otsego were first established in 1855 as Pleasant Grove precinct. In 1858, the name was changed to Otsego after the town in upstate New York where many of the early white settlers emigrated from. It is an Indian word meaning "Friendly Meeting Place."

The Mississippi River has played a major role in Otsego's history, acting as a transportation corridor for the early Sioux, Chippewa and Winnebago peoples as well as the white settlers. It was the reason for Otsego being the site of the first homestead claim in the county ands is responsible for Otsego's early farming development. Ferries crossed the river at Otsego to the Village of Orono and Elk River. The city maintains an open rural feel with large residential lots and the majority of its land is used for agriculture.

Friendly residents, beautiful farms, open spaces, wildlife habitat and the Mississippi bordering the north and east sides convey a country atmosphere. Excellent school districts, access to major roads and a close proximity to the Twin Cities Greater Metropolitan Area give Otsego residents the benefit of a suburban lifestyle.
