Clinton has a vibrant economy despite the national economic situation. With
very low unemployment, the city has been fortunate to maintain a stable
business base while continuing to attract new retail and commercial
businesses. As a result, the city has realized an increase in sales tax and
ad valorem values since 1993. Currently, three developers, recognized as
leaders in the southeast retail market, are preparing lifestyle center
projects for Clinton in anticipation of a turn around in the national
economy. As a city of 26,000, there is a strong housing market in Clinton,
with prices ranging from $100,000 to several million dollars. Additionally,
there are senior adult neighborhoods along with
assisted-living and congregate-care facilities all conveniently located to
medical care and retail centers. Organized homeowner associations are active
in helping maintain the integrity of neighborhoods and solidifying property
values.
in January, 2009, Clinton High School was named one of the Top 50 High
Schools in America in math and science by Seimens. In addition, the Clinton
schools recently received the Beacon award, the highest given, by the
Mississippi School Boards Association for overall excellence. Clinton was
the only school to receive this award.
Clinton has a comprehensive parks and recreation program that meets the
needs of a diverse community population. Clinton has two major athletic park
complexes with several smaller pocket parks scattered through the city.
Furthermore, there are several neighborhoods that have their own park
included as part of the housing development. In 2007, Traceway Park and in
2008, Brighton Park was recognized by the Mississippi Parks and Recreation
Association for outstanding park design and innovation.
