Its proximity to both Table Rock and Bull Shoals Lakes and a variety of rivers, including the James and Finley which makes this area a major tourist attraction.

Area cultural activities include the Springfield Symphony, Springfield Little Theater, Springfield Opera, the Mid-American Singer, the Springfield Ballet, and Springfield Art Museum and play an important role in attracting new residents to the area. In addition, there are seven institutions of higher learning including Southwest Missouri State University.

Over the past 30 years Christian County has been effectively transformed from a rural county to a suburban county. The rate of growth for Nixa over the past 10 years has been phenomenal. Nixa reached a 77% increase in population in 1990 and still continues to grow. It is anticipated that Nixa will continue to experience rapid growth. This belief is based on current population migration trends, recent expansion of Nixa infrastructure and the number of construction projects, particularly single-family sub-divisions.

Nixa's proximity to Springfield has made it into a "bedroom" community. Over 70% of the work force has employment in Springfield. Nixa is also only 30 miles from Branson, Missouri the "music show capital of the world." The large tourism industry in the Branson area is having an ever-increasing impact on Nixa by providing jobs for local people. Many of the entertainment-related employees choose to live in Nixa. Nixa school system has 333 full time employees. Of that number 238 are certified teachers, librarians and counselors and 13 are administrators. The average years of experience in the district are 11.24 years. Those teachers with advanced degrees represent 43% of the teaching staff. Nixa has a very low turnover rate. New positions have been created yearly because of the steady increase in student population. The school provides supervision for elementary students beginning at 7:00 a.m. at no charge to the parents and work cooperatively with the Family Y to provide a "latch key" program after school until 6:00 p.m. at a small charge to parents. Summer league sports programs through the local schools and the Nixa Parks Department are available for all students, as well as spring and fall soccer leagues, and winter basketball leagues.

There is a great deal of parent and community involvement within the district. Much of the involvement is credited to a strong PTA and their network of volunteers both in and out of the school system.
