Platte City, the county seat of Platte County, Missouri, is located just 5 miles north of Kansas City International Airport. It is a Fourth Class City governed by a Board of Alderman. The current population is 3,866 and will continue to rise as tracts of land are annexed into city limits for the purpose of future development.

As a growing and thriving community, Platte City is attracting new businesses and residences. It has an AAA rated public school system, public library, museum, churches of various denominations, 5 city parks, swimming pool, baseball and soccer fields, community center and many civic organizations.

The newest of the city parks is Riverview Park located on the West side of the city adjacent to the Platte River. It is comprised of 71 acres of wooded hillside. At completion the park will include a playground, shelter house, multipurpose field, walking trails and regulation size basketball court. Development of the park is being funded by a 1/2 cent sales tax.

Platte City also offers antique shopping, a variety of eating establishments and ample lodging for visitors. Of interest to history buffs are the Platte County Courthouse, built in 1867 and the Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum, an 1882 Victorian mini mansion (a replication of the governors mansion in Jefferson City). The Ben Ferrel Museum is an example of Renaissance Revival architecture with French influence, a very rare architecture for the area. It also houses the County archives and Genealogical Library.
