Danbury, New HampshireNew Hampshire has a reputation for being a state that is off the beaten track. There are large rural areas with small towns dotted around. Danbury is just such a town. Located in the heart of New Hampshire, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, Danbury is just waiting for you! The town of Danbury is located amidst an array of several more expansive areas with a variety of amenities. Danbury has two large lakes; Newfound Lake which boasts an idyllic setting for more tranquil water activities; and farther north, Lake Winnipesaukee which provides a bustling shoreline and more extensive water usage. This is still largely a rural area, and is a haven for visitors with an abundance of bed and breakfast establishments. That does not mean, however that there are no houses to buy or even rent here. New construction is being built, and the trend is to follow what has gone before it - large tracts of land with the house hidden from view. Most homes here start at $200,000, although there are smaller ones with smaller price tags. Many New Yorkers have moved to this area because of its breathtaking beauty, lakes and attractive schools and economy. But most of all, people move here for the peace and quiet and rural lifestyle this slice of America offers. To the southwest, the Sunapee area offers additional downhill skiing at Mt. Sunapee, and cross country skiing at its Norsk and Eastman facilities. Beaches, boating, fishing and dinner cruises are available on Lake Sunapee, as are mountain biking and gondola rides during the summer on Mt. Sunapee. The adjacent town of New London, home of Colby Sawyer College, provides theater, upscale shops and numerous restaurants. For those who enjoy browsing and shopping, there are individually owned and operated country stores and antique shops, as well as an abundance of sophisticated retail providers at the Lakes Region Outlet Mall in Tilton for the more serious shopper. In close proximity to Danbury is the world famous Ruggle's Mine and the popular Mr. Cardigan Appalachian Club Lodge, as well as several state parks. For the golf fan, there is a challenging golf at the new 72-par Ragged Mountain Golf Course, each facility within five minutes of Danbury. The rural countryside is also an ideal setting for leaf peeping, fishing, hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, and star-gazing, as well as viewing the abundant wildlife and dramatic seasonal vistas. Danbury has much to offer everyone, from the nature lover to the shopper; but most of all, it offers peace of mind to those who are looking for a slower pace in life. Whether you need a summer place, and a get-away-from-it-all second residence, or want to move the family to something a little more laid-back, Danbury is it! Photo Courtesy of Queren
