Population: 2,764 Located in Warren County

First developed about 30 years ago, Panther Valley is a mix of single-family homes, town homes and condominiums. The community offers residents such amenities as a golf course, swimming pools, tennis courts and an upscale, private country club. About 75 percent of township residents live in this section of Allamuchy.

Our parks are a wonderful way to get out and enjoy the outdoors and our close location to Route 80 allows easy access to those parks. The township of Allamuchy stretches across more than 20 square miles in northeastern Warren County. About one-third of the township is within Allamuchy Mountain State Park, which serves as a recreational haven for hikers, horseback riders, cross country skiers and other outdoor lovers.

Railroad transportation is available through the train station in Hackettstown, about a 10-minute drive away. Commuters also can take advantage of an express bus service to Manhattan, which departs from Panther Valley Road, where the residential community of Panther Valley is located. This also is the site of the Panther Valley Shopping Center, which offers a convenience store, delicatessen, ice cream parlor, hair salon and pharmacy. There also is a small collection of stores in the heart of Allamuchy, including a general store and a liquor store. Allamuchy derived its name from Chief Allamuchahokkingen of the Leni Lenapes. The name means "place within the hills." The Native American's name was given to the first settlement in 1715, before eventually being shortened to the less tongue-twisting Allamuchy.
