New Jersey Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Blairstown, New Jersey
Population: 5,500
Located in Warren County
Tucked away amidst the open spaces of Warren County, the 30-square-mile township of Blairstown provides an opportunity to get away from it all, yet its easy access to interstate highways such as I-78 and I-80 makes it convenient for commuters.
The houses are built on a gorgeous rural setting with a lot of open space. All homes are set on minimum 1-acre lots, with many homeowners having 3 acres of land or more. Recently the town learned that a bald eagle had made a nest on the Delaware.
Besides the relaxed style of country living, another benefit of living in Blairstown is the educational options that are available. The school system is relatively small, so most of the kids stay with one another from preschool all the way through high school. Public school students from Blairstown attend the North Warren Regional High School, which also educates students from Hardwick, Frelinghuysen and Knowlton. From North Warren Regional High School, about 75 percent of the graduates continue their education at two- and four-year colleges. The average class size is 22 pupils, according to the latest New Jersey State Report Cards.
Approximately 700 students are enrolled in the Blairstown K-6 school district, which also takes in elementary school students from Hardwick Township, located to the north of Blairstown.
For shopping needs, Blairstown residents have a number of options. Right in Blairstown, there is a Main Street business district that comprises about four blocks. In addition, there are a number of commercial buildings along Route 94, a north-south thoroughfare that runs through the township. Among the businesses located here are Blairstown Eye Associates, the Blair Tile Co., the Blairstown Pastry Shop, the Blairstown Pharmacy and the Brass Rose Day Spa and Salon, to name a few.
Besides Route 94, other nearby highways include Route 46 on the southern end of Blairstown and Route 521 to the north. Besides providing shopping convenience, the network of highways makes life easier for daily commuters. Manhattan can be reached in about one hour.
The Delaware River has 52 miles of shoreline in the county and offers everything from bass and shad fishing to canoeing, swimming and tubing. The region also boasts seven state parks and the 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
In town, there are a number of baseball and soccer fields. Another favorite gathering spot is Footbridge Park off Route 94, where the township hosts its annual 4th of July celebration.
Blairstown is a town that offers a lot; it has retained its small town feel while still being convenient for commuters to NYC. The mayor notes that the town has many things to offer, great schools, great location and wonderful people. It sounds like she is right!
