The Township of Byram is located in Northern New Jersey in Sussex County. Byram is known as "The Township of Lakes", having more than two dozen lakes and ponds. Several large communities have grown around the larger lakes. Byram covers more than 22.48 square miles and its current population is estimated around 9,000. It is a residential community offering a wide variety of amenities.

Byram Township is known as the "Gateway to New Jersey Trails"! The Sussex Branch Trail extends 21.2 miles from Netcong to Branchville, following the route of the old Sussex Branch Railroad. This line was in service under various ownerships from 1848 - 1966. Today trail users can explore the route once used by steam locomotives and long freight trains.

Byram Township is also known for its exceptional school system, and has two public schools for grades K - 8. Both the Byram Lakes Elementary School and the Byram Township Intermediate School are run by the Byram Township Board of Education. The Byram Lakes Elementary School houses grades K - 4.

Homes are reasonably priced for the New Jersey area. A three bedroom raised ranch with two bathrooms sells for around $250,000. A beautiful, brand-new four bedroom colonial, with three full bathrooms, with spectacular views will sell for around $650,000. Quite a bargain for the area!

Waterloo Village, 19th century Morris Canal port town, is a National Historic Site located in Byram Township. It is located along the banks of the Musconectcong River in the Allamuchy Mountain State Park in Sussex County, New Jersey. The Village, totaling over 400 acres, is managed by Waterloo Foundation for the Arts, an organization founded in 1964 by Percival Leach and Louis Gualandi.
