Cherry Hill Township Cherry Hill Township is a township in Camden County, New Jersey, in the United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the township had a total population of 69,965, making it the fourteenth-largest municipality in New Jersey and the sixth-largest in the Delaware Valley, South Jersey's densely-populated core outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is considered an 'edge city' of Philadelphia. In 2006, Cherry Hill was named among the Best Places to Live in the US by Money Magazine and was ranked eighth safest place to live in the same survey. Cherry Hill was also named among the Best Places to Live in the Phildelphia region for 2006 by Philadelphia Magazine (see magazine print edition, October 2006).

The municipality is home to more than 70,000 residents and 4,000 businesses and boasts 49 parks and recreational facilities within its 24 square miles. Cherry Hill made its name as the home of the Garden State Park horse racetrack and the East Coast's first enclosed shopping mall, Cherry Hill Mall.

Today, the community enjoys a regional reputation as an affluent, educated, family-oriented town with 19 award-winning public schools, numerous places of worship, and a vibrant business sector.

Cherry Hill has long served as Southern New Jersey's commercial center and features national retail destinations alongside local landmarks and community favorites. Corporate citizens include Subaru of America, Inc., Commerce Bancorp, Melitta Coffee and Pinnacle Foods Corp. (makers of Vlasic, Duncan Hines, and more).

Residential housing stock varies from pre-war to planned suburban neighborhoods, high-rise rental to custom ultra-luxury homes and gated condominium communities. The value of a home or business in Cherry Hill is enhanced by a world-class municipal services system that includes a brand-new multi-million dollar Public Library and award-winning Police and Fire protection.

Cherry Hill's population leveled through the late 1970s and early '80s. Shopping, restaurants, commercial and industrial centers, high-rise apartment towers, schools, churches and synagogues grew with the burgeoning population, which reached about 70,000 by 1985. Attention shifted to commercial redevelopment, expanding educational excellence, enhancing the Township park system and managing regional traffic.

Today, Cherry Hill remains South Jersey's economic center. The Mall's continued success is complemented by the complete overhaul of the now-defunct Garden State Park racetrack. More than $500 million in private investment is recreating the Park as a mixed-use town center.

The healthcare and hospitality industries continue to expand, along with technology-related companies like Lockheed Martin.

The Township aggressively pursues the purchase of remaining Open Space to enhance the community and ease the burden of potential over-development while maintaining an environmental balance.

In fact, Smart Growth principles govern Township policy across the board, dictating the preservation of natural resources on every developed or improved property, increasing 'walkability,' offering incentives for the redevelopment of vacant structures and encouraging transit-oriented development and historic preservation.

Cherry Hill remains what it has been for more than 160 years- a growing, prosperous community of diverse people who seek economic opportunity, a safe, secure environment in which to raise a family and who focus on education and the development of a society that ascribes to the highest standard of American living. In short, we like to say, "You couldn't pick a better place!"
