New Jersey Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Clinton, New Jersey
Population: 463
Located in Hunterdon County
The Town of Clinton lies a little to the northeast of the center of Hunterdon County. Rich limestone deposits assured good farmland throughout the area. However, today Clinton is a growing, rural-suburban community being transformed from a farming community to a bedroom community for corporate professionals. Farms still share the countryside with lovely neighborhoods and corporate complexes. Community leaders have set a goal to plan for growth that balances preservation of rural character with commercial development.
Clinton is a charming town with a thriving Main Street filled with unique boutiques, craft shops, antique stores, delightful eateries, and professional offices. An historic old bridge crosses the Raritan River as it spills over a dam situated between 2 picturesque old mills housing the Hunterdon Museum of Art and the Hunterdon Historical Museum. Many of the community activities are centered around its children. Opportunities abound for participation in various religious organizations, community athletics, and music and theatre groups. The North Branch of the Hunterdon County Library is conveniently located in Clinton.
The Clinton Public School caters to grades K-8 while the township school district is comprised of the Spruce Run Elementary for K-2, Patrick McGaheran School for grades 3 - 5, and Round Valley Middle School for grades 6 - 8. Grades 9 - 12 attend North Hunterdon Regional High School.
A gift of land, now known as Wescott Nature Preserve was donated to the County in 1966 and became the foundation for the Hunterdon County Park System. Today, the Park System contains over 4,700 acres of park land in 18 areas throughout the County. The diverse natural features of the parks include rocky cliffs, fields, forests, streams, rivers, marshes, and ponds.
