Hazlet Township, New Jersey is home to just over 22,000 residents and covers approximately 5 square miles within the county of Monmouth.
Hazlet Township, originally part of Middletown Township and formerly called Raritan, was formed in 1848. The community voted to change the name to Hazlet Township in honor of one of its prominent citizens, Dr. John Hazlet Township.
The township was mostly farmland and forests until the 1950s, when Garden State Parkway brought land and housing developers -- and thousands of families -- to the area. Today, the area is suburban.
The Route 35 and 36 corridors also provide residents with a thriving commercial zone, which includes six shopping plazas within the town, but away from the quiet neighborhoods.
Hazlet Township boasts of a quality public school system, neighborhood parks, an outdoor roller hockey rink and a swim and tennis club. There are also many activities and programs for children, adults and seniors. Hazlet Township is a thriving and active community with a variety of community events.
Hazlet Township is home to a $6.1 million Railroad Station including expanded parking, heated glass enclosures, new lighting, handicapped accessibility and mosaic murals depicting scenes of the Bayshore's history.
