"Pearl of the Bayshore!"

Keyport is known as the "Pearl of the Bayshore". Situated on an inlet of Raritan Bay, it is named for it's key-shaped harbor. Keyport offers magnificent views of Manhattan, the Verrazano-Narrows, the Outerbridge Crossing and Staten Island. The town is beautiful and quiet, with historic residential charm and downtown charisma.

Established as Brown's Point in 1870, Keyport developed into an important shipping center for Monmouth County commerce, especially farm produce. Today, Keyport is known for its strong charter boat industry and extensive harbor facilities. Monmouth County's top employers are Fort Monmouth, AT&T/Lucent Technologies, County of Monmouth, Jersey Shore Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center and Riverview Medical Center.

Keyport's schools are clustered on a beautiful campus within walking distance of all residential areas. The schools provide state-of-the-art instruction and equipment. College-level courses and career-interest programs, which supplement the college prep, business, and liberal arts curriculums, are provided with the cooperation of the Monmouth County Vocational School District and Brookdale Community College. The area also has a couple parochial and several private schools.

Recreation opportunities abound with the Borough's nine waterfront and neighborhood parks. Most of Keyport's mile of pristine shoreline is publicly accessible beachfront, through two bay front beaches. The boardwalk, ball fields, basketball courts, play equipment, municipal boat ramp and tennis courts are all attractive, popular and well-kept. There are many community organizations that sponsor annual recreation and sports activities for children and adults. Local events include annual art and antique shows held at the Public Library. There are five privately owned and operated marinas in the area that provide docking for boat owners. The Steamboat Dock Museum, located in a building previously occupied by the Keansburg Steamboat Company, is dedicated to local history. The downtown area has newly refurbished buildings on tree-lined streets. Personalized services (retail, professional, home improvement and more) are offered by owner-operators to local and regional shoppers.
