Raritan was formed from Amwell in 1838. One of the eastern townships of central Hunterdon County, Raritan is rhombic shaped resulting in its extreme northern and western points reaching far into the townships adjoining it to the north and west. A gentle mix of suburbia and rural countryside, Raritan is small-town charm and atmosphere conveniently located within a short drive to big city amenities.
Raritan offers a host of community resources for the use and enjoyment of its resident. Three community parks provide for meaningful use of leisure time, encourage appreciation of our natural resources, and preserve and protect open space and greenways for the enjoyment of future generations. Other offerings include ice skating rinks, playgrounds with new state-of-the-art equipment, adult & youth sport leagues, and the Morales Nature Preserve.
Hunterdon County, although still a relatively rural area, is traversed by one of the most rapidly growing corridors in the State of New Jersey. It's agricultural and blue collar industrial base is giving way to a white-collar office and professional economy, following the national trend from blue to white collar employment. The impact of this growth and change has been substantial over the last two decades and should continue for at least the next 20 years.
The Flemington-Raritan Regional School District consist of four elementary schools and one middle school serving Flemington and Raritan Township communities with a goal to foster student's intellectual growth in nurturing the total child by offering programs and experiences in and beyond the classroom.
