Tenafly is recognized as one of the most elegant towns in Bergen County. The quality school system is steadfastly maintained by the Community, there is an elementary school in each of its quadrants. All four elementary schools feed to the Middle School and then on to Tenafly High School, which boasts a broad range of advanced placement and honors courses. New Jersey Monthly's (September 2000) "Top 75 Public High Schools" rank Tenafly High as #28 in the State. Tenafly's diverse population is served by all houses of worship either within the town or a short distance away. There is a direct bus service to New York City as well as points South, however, at this time, there is no commuter train service. The town is primarily residential with a compact retail area that includes a movie theater. There are excellent recreational facilities for all ages, including two privately run swim clubs, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball and tennis courts abound, whilst there are many parks and kiddie playgrounds dotted around the town. The Tenafly Nature Center, with its hiking trails, ponds, annual flowers and botany is available to the Public. Add to this the Davies Johnson Park, the private Knickerbocker Country Club (golf & tennis), the JCC on the Palisades with its many facilities, you will understand why residents appreciate their ample "green space". Today the Palisades and their environs remain in their natural state and overseeing all are the first "Tenaflyers"; Hawks, Eagles, Owls, Blue Jays, Gulls and other birds!
