If you have the opportunity to cruse the famous Route 66 through New Mexico, be sure to stay for a while in Edgewood, one of New Mexico's newer communities. Founded in the 1930's, the town of Edgewood is 15 square miles. Situated on the south east side of the Sandia Mountains, Edgewood is protected from the desert heat.

The city of Edgewood is committed to constantly improve the quality of life for residents through thoughtful planning and development in the community parks and recreational areas. Throughout the summer months, this community provides activities for children and teens in the areas of sports, arts, sciences and more. Fun excursions are on the agenda for the teens. The city also boasts an Aquatic and Recreation Center that offers swimming, art areas, athletic fields, a skate park, picnic areas, a hillside amphitheater, and a teen center. An active senior citizen center is also a centerpiece for life in this small community.

Although Edgewood's population is small, just under 2,000 people, two types of housing options are offered. There are 2 apartment complexes in the city and over 3,000 single-family dwellings. Edgewood is just 20 miles from Albuquerque. "The Duke City" is a college town and the financial and commercial center for New Mexico. Albuquerque hosts the international balloon festival every year and folks from all over the world come to pilot balloons and also to observe the beautiful, gentle, balloons floating through the cloudless New Mexico sky. New Mexico ranks 12th in the nation for growth, and Albuquerque alone grew from a community of 5,000 in the late 1800's to it's current population of 550,000 in just the metro area. Edgewood boasts a variety of cultural and entertainment events and festivals. Wildlife West Nature Park, a nature park and enhanced zoo which includes one of the State's best mid-size outdoor entertainment venues, hosts the Annual Wind Festival; two major summer music festivals; a mid-summer Bear Fair; a community melodrama; a series of Chuckwagon Dinners; and the Fall Harvest Festival. The Town, in cooperation with the Edgewood Chamber of Commerce, Wildlife West, and Rich Ford, sponsors the Annual Run, Rally and Rock festival celebrating the anniversary of the Town's incorporation in 1999. This festival, held mainly at the Wildlife West and Rich Ford locations, includes antique car and tractor shows, a business expo, and several entertainment events. Run, Rally and Rock is held at the same time as the August Bluegrass Festival at Wildlife West Nature Park. The Edgewood Farmer's Market is held Mondays from 3-7 p.m. adjacent to NAPA Auto Parts, located on Route 66 west of NM 344.

Other assets within the town include public library, senior center, community center, a skate park, a small park and tennis courts. The Single Action Shooting Society's Founder's Ranch - at which several large events focusing on cowboy culture, shooting, and Old West Life are held each year - is located just south of Edgewood, and the society recently announced that it is moving its headquarters to the Town of Edgewood. The town is served by 2 newspapers: The Mountain View Telegraph and the Independent.

The Edgewood area offers a great opportunity for affordable, quality living in a more rural community.
