Within easy travel of the City of Vision are recreational opportunities too vast to list in their entirety, and the choices of things to do are limited only by the imaginations of those doing them. Shopping and dining in and around Rio Rancho are unique experiences, blending the fun and the fancy, the trendy and the traditional, all reflecting the multicultural heritage of the Land of Enchantment. The City of Rio Rancho formally broke ground on the state-of-the-art, Multi-Purpose Event Center on June 14,2005. It will serve as the cornerstone to a 'from-scratch', New Urbanist, pedestrian-friendly City Centre/Downtown. By the time the Event Center and City Hall open near the end of 2006, it is expected that the City will have partnered with one or more private developers resulting in the location of multiple, 'signature-type' casual and up-scale dining establishments, a multi-plex movie theater and retailers. As Rio Rancho matures, however, the range of housing available to would-be newcomers becomes more diversified each year. A real estate tour of today's Rio Rancho reveals that there is truly a home for everyone in the City of Vision. While single-family developments have been and continue to be a mainstay in the housing market, the city is by no means limited to this format. Rio Rancho is home to many golf-course condominiums, large apartment complexes and higher density communities. The city's comprehensive plan, which will guide development for the next 20 years, also encourages more housing density as Rio Rancho grows. Rio Rancho Public Schools celebrated its tenth anniversary as an independent school district last year. Since then, the public school's have become a unifying force in the community and a magnet drawing families who choose to live in Rio Rancho because of its strong school system. The district has more than doubled in size since its founding in 1994, and in 2005-06 will enroll more than 13,000 students. The district's success has helped transform Rio Rancho from a bedroom community into a city where excellence and community pride are a part of everyday life. Rio Rancho's employment base is also on the move, led by the city's largest employer - Intel Corp. While Intel has historically been, and continues to be, the largest single employer in Rio Rancho, a new industry has taken root in Rio Rancho. Several call center have opened up in the past five years which, combined, represent a significant employment base in both Rio Rancho and the greater Albuquerque area. Rio Rancho residents also have easy access to a wide range of medical services as part of the greater Albuquerque metropolitan area. |
