Canandaigua, New York
Hundreds of years ago the Native Americans who lived here named it Canandaigua, The Chosen Spot. And so it is, with rolling green hills, a crystal-clear jewel of a lake and lush vast forests of evergreens and other trees. Today, Canandaigua is a bustling city of 10,000, a bedroom community of the nearby industrial city of Rochester, N.Y. Settled in 1789 many of the original buildings still stand, restored to their former splendor. A major medical center, college, excellent public schools and a diverse industrial and business base are located in this picturesque city.
Canandaigua is located between Rochester and Syracuse in the western portion of the state. This beautiful four-season destination in the Finger Lakes, offers something for everyone. Our main street's historic Victorian architecture leads the way to great shopping in our downtown and beautiful Canandaigua Lake.
Canandaigua is the Iroquois word for "chosen spot" and the area is truly blessed with spectacular scenery. The area is renowned for its wineries, fruits and vegetables. We enjoy water sports in the spring and summer, snow sports in the winter and beautiful fall foliage.
