In 1986, the village of Chestnut Ridge, the largest village in the town of Ramapo, was incorporated. This community measures five square miles and borders Orangetown, Saddle river Road, Old Nyack Turnpike, the Garden State Extensions and the New Jersey State Line. This makes for easy commuting to New York and New Jersey. The town of Ramapo and the Village have installed beautiful welcome signs at the roads leading into Chestnut Ridge.
The residents within the Village are very community oriented. Every year the Village sponsors a family picnic for its residents with donations from local businesses.
Village volunteers organize and run the annual picnic event which provides food at minimal cost, free entertainment and gifts, and has always been a success. Other village events include sponsoring local artists and marquetry classes for residents. new homeowners are welcomed with a village packet informing them of things the village offers. Within the Village are several East Ramapo schools; Green Meadow Waldorf School, and the Gould Academy.
It is a community with many diverse ethnic groups whose common interests support the community and unites them all.
