Located in Tompkins County
Dryden is located in central New York, near the Finger Lakes region and within Tompkins County. The Village of Dryden is a small community located between Ithaca and Cortland and part of the Town of Dryden. Population for the village is nearly 2000 and total population for the town, including the village is approximately 13,000 residents. Surrounding communities that are also partners in the Dryden Central Schools include all or parts of Freeville, McLean, Etna, Harford, and Varna. This is central New York State, rolling hills, good farmland, nice wide-open spaces, lakes, and much more. Dryden is a fine place to live and bring up your kids.
Dryden is proud of our heritage and each June sponsors Dairy Day featuring a morning parade and all-afternoon events, kid's games, food and more at Montgomery Park in the village. Southworth Library is located on West Main Street and is one of Dryden's best known historic structures. Downtown Dryden has seen a great deal of change over the years but in general has kept its small town charm.
The Village Green lies to the east of North Street in between two community churches. New to the Village Green in 1997 was the installation of a fountain replicating one that had been one the Green years ago. The new fountain was a gift of Leona Cotterill to our community. Just south of the village is another park at Dryden Lake which is owned by New York State and maintained by the Town of Dryden.
Our Village of Dryden offices are located at 16 South Street and the offices for the Town of Dryden are located a quarter mile east of the four corners at 65 East Main Street. Both are open during weekdays to assist residents and visitors with questions.
Education is important in this valley. Our Dryden Central Schools will match up to any system in the state. There are over 2200 students enrolled in the system and our Dryden Lions "roar" with a great deal of Dryden "Pride". Our local college is TC3, Tompkins Cortland Community College, which is located just outside the northeast corner of the village, towards Cortland, NY. Cortland is home to the State University of New York at Cortland and 10 miles to the west of Dryden is Ithaca, NY, home of Cornell University and Ithaca College. These educational institutions have a great deal of impact on our community.
