New York Real Estate & Relocation Guide
New City, New York
Population: 34,038
Located in Rockland County
New City was established in 1798 as the County Seat, probably because of its central location, and is the home of the Rockland County Courthouse.
New City offers a peaceful, safe environment for raising a family and is convenient to all, with easy access to the Palisades Parkway and New York State Thruway, as well as public transportation. There is a wonderful sense of community with its main business district (town) being a three-mile sidewalked stretch of Main Street, and most stores are in 19th Century frame houses.
One of the main attractions is the Clarkstown Central School District, which has a national reputation for excellence. Families come from everywhere seeking out this school district!
One third of New City is parkland. The Town residents have access to wonderful parks and full recreational programs. The hamlet also abuts Lake de Forest and Germonds Park, which has baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts and three swimming pools. New City residents also enjoy the close proximity to New York State parks, including Rockland Lake, Harriman, and Bear Mountain State Parks.
New City is also within 10 minutes of the new Palisades Center, one of the largest shopping malls in America, offering extensive boutiques and department stores and a full service entertainment center. For a variety of antique shops and fine restaurants, New City is nearby the interesting Village of Nyack.
Its housing stock varies from small, historic homes dating to as early as the 1700's to modern day mansions. Prices range from $180,000 for a 3 bedroom home on a third of an acre to over $500,000 for a 5,000 square foot home on one acre. New City truly offers everything you could ask for in fine family living...great schools, safety, conveniences, beautiful parks, recreation, and more.
