The Town of Ossining is built on terraced hills over-looking the Hudson River with views of Hook Mountain, High Tor, and even the towers of Manhattan on a clear day. Old in history and young in spirit, its population is diverse and dynamic.
This area of the Hudson Valley is steeped in history. One can visit Phillipsburg Manor, Van Cortlandt Manor. "Sunnyside", the home of Washington Irving, and "Lyndhurst," the great estate once owned by Jay Gould is the site of summer outdoor concerts.
Due to its affordability and accessibility, new families are constantly attracted to Ossining. This is truly one of the more affordable areas along this side of the Hudson and this close to New York City. The district, created in 1854, now operates on the Princeton Plan, the elementary grades being divided among three schools, with two grade levels in each. Grades 6-8 are in a middle school and grades 9-12 comprise the high school.
Ossining maintains over 130 acres of parklands and recreational grounds. The Ossining Village fair is held each year bringing everyone together for a day of fun and food. Ossining has an annual fishing derby, the Regatta on the Hudson, and the Holiday tree lighting ceremony.
