The unusual name, Penn Yan, came from the names Pennsylvania and Yankee, selected because the early settlers had migrated from Pennsylvania and New England. Incorporated in 1838, this village of 4,000 at the northernmost tip of beautiful Keuka Lake, is one of the gemstones of the famous Finger Lakes. There are 200 family operated grape vineyards nearby and 11 premium wineries. A four-year college and a large and modern medical center serve the health and educational needs of this place, known as one of the most well-kept and beautiful locations in New York.
