New York Real Estate & Relocation Guide

Seaford, New York

Population: 15,791

Located in Nassau County

Seaford is located near the sea, on the South Shore of Long Island, and is one of the older communities on the Island. Seaford offers the excitement of seeing a NHL hockey game at the Nassau Coliseum, Triple Crown thoroughbred racing a Belmont Park, and star-studded concerts at the Westbury Music Fair and Jones Beach open air theater. Many arboretums and historical sites, such as Old Bethpage Village Restoration, are located in this region.

But the piece d'resistance along the South Shore are the three exquisite barrier beach islands, including world famous Jones Beach State Park, a six-mile beach and 2,400-acre playground. White, pristine sand stretches from the suburban city of Long Beach to the unique vacation communities of Fire Island. Fire Island is designated a National Seashore with a wildlife preserve and a restored 138-year-old lighthouse. Only 32 miles long, this barrier island, accessible by passenger ferry, is home to 17 small summer communities.

Winter is a time of stunning beauty and tranquility that invites thrilling activities such as snowmobiling, skiing and ice fishing, or the cozy relaxation of enjoying a good book by a fireplace.

And the great outdoors is only a part of the charm that makes Merrick a great place to live! Other interests and activities that will capture your spirit are the many fine restaurants, museums and shopping outlets.

The children definitely are winners here too. Massapequa is part of an award winning school system and provides the children the highest quality of education, all the way from pre-school to post-graduate classes.

Because of its proximity to New York City, plus the fact that Seaford is on the island, housing is rather limited. There is new building going on, but the city wants to maintain the beauty for which it is renowned, therefore many of the older homes are being lovingly restored.

Seaford retains a sense of the quaintness that drew so many people to it initially. Now more suburban in general, it is still small enough to make everyone feel like they know everyone else here. For a place that offers luxurious homes, some apartments and great living on the bay, check out Seaford!
