Tarrytown, New York
Located on the hills of the east bank of the Hudson River, Tarrytown is the eastern terminus of the Tappan Zee Bridge connecting the New York State Thruway between Tarrytown and Nyack. Serviced by Metro North's Hudson Division, the 25 miles to Grand Central Station in New York City is about 38 minutes. The village is about an hour from New York City's airports.
Several renowned business establishments have made Tarrytown their place of operation, including General Foods, Cooney Brothers, Hitachi, Dannon Yogurt and American Book Sellers
Tarrytown has an active recreational department servicing both the young and old. Activities include soccer, baseball leagues, men's softball leagues, Halloween parties, an Easter Egg Hunt and summer concerts in the park.
Parks include Patriot Park on Broadway near the Warner Library, Pierson Park on the Waterfront with tennis courts, basketball courts and picnic areas, and Losee Park with lighted softball and baseball fields on the Hudson River.
This is the town that inspired a legendary folktale - The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving. This is a place filled with gothic mansions, secluded Rockefeller estates, and romantic landscaping. Visiting Tarrytown's Lyndhurst is touring the quintessential American Gothic Revival home. This castle-like home served as Jay Gould's summer retreat and offers a unique architectural experience.
Two Tarrytown churches also provide dramatic tours of history and architecture. The Union Church of Pocantico Hills and its stained glass windows, commissioned by members of the Rockefeller family, are beautiful creations at this country church. Tours of the windows are available.
Due to its affordability and accessibility, new families are constantly attracted to Tarrytown.
