Concord is located 20 miles Northeast of Charlotte along Interstate 85. The city was founded in 1796 on a 26-acre site. Due to a disagreement over where the city should be located, the name Concord (harmony) was adopted to reflect the harmonious compromise which settled the issue.

Today, Concord is a thriving community with diverse and appealing amenities. Schools rank among the top in the state. Several colleges are located in and around Concord, as is a major medical center. Sports and entertainment include the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord Motorsport Park, Piedmont Class-A baseball Boll Weevils, Old Courthouse Theater, Rocky River Golf Club and more. Nearby in Charlotte are professional football (Panthers), basketball (Hornets), baseball (Knights) and hockey (Checkers).
