High Point, North CarolinaHigh Point is a destination of choice for those seeking the cultural, recreational, educational and occupational opportunities it offers in abundance. This Triad community is large enough to offer dynamic lifestyle, but small enough to be your home town. Proud of its manufacturing heritage, High Point is well positioned to prosper in the 21st century as a vibrant, modern city. Come see our diverse neighborhoods where you'll find the best of old world craftsmanship and all of today's modern conveniences. High Point is generally regarded as the Furniture Capital of the World and North Carolina's International City due to the bi-annual High Point Furniture Market that attracts 100,000 exhibitors and buyers from around the world. High Point is located at the highest point of the 1856 North Carolina Railroad between Charlotte and Goldsboro where it intersected the 1852 Great Western Plank Road. It was incorporated in 1859. Before it became a major manufacturing center, the most important industries were tobacco, woodworking and textiles. The first of many High Point furniture factories was opened in 1889. Like the rest of the Piedmont Triad area, the climate in High Point is temperate, with four seasons. Summers tend to be warm and sometimes humid. Fall and spring are mild and full of vivid color. Winters are refreshingly chilly, but rarely cold and are almost always short; snow provides occasional excitement. Whether it's a castle born from our gold refining heritage or a 19th century Quaker Plantation, High Point offers something for everyone. You can explore the regions rich history, distinctive cultural events and diverse recreational activities. Oh, and don't forget the shopping. High Point offers more than 70 retail furniture outlets. If you prefer outdoor fun, how about a picnic at Oak Hollow Lake or a hike at the Piedmont Environmental Center. We offer an evening at the theatre, concerts by the lake and festivals at the park - something for everyone.
