Jamestown is a lovely historical community nestled in the greater Triad area of North Carolina. It offers a village atmosphere complete with brick sidewalks and main street shopping. The community is often considered a "bedroom community" for both Greensboro and High Point. It is a residential haven offering the best of the new and the quality and charm of times gone by. Jamestown was named for James Mendenhall. The Mendenhall's founded the Town of Jamestown in 1816. They built a meeting house in Jamestown and a school nearby. Other schools followed including Jamestown Female College, a Law School, Coffin Medical School, Fling Hill School, Oakdale School, Jamestown Elementary then later Lucy Coffin Ragsdale High School and Millis Road Elementary. Jamestown became an incorporated municipality in 1947 with Tom Ragsdale, Sr. as mayor.

Jamestown has grown a lot since those early days. However, it has kept its small town charm with friendly people and friendly merchants. A strong sense of family and community is still present. Jamestown enjoys a low tax rate. Also, Jamestown has the highest per capita income and highest average housing in an 11 county region. Jamestown's oldest industry is Oakdale Cotton Mill. During the Civil War guns were manufactured in this plant. Jamestown is resolute to its history with the town's oldest building being the Mendenhall House built in approximately 1800.

The Triad area of North Carolina which includes Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem with Jamestown between Greensboro and High Point, offers easy access from one location to another with very good road systems. I-85 and I-40 interstates are accessible from these cities and the Piedmont International Airport is within 15 minutes of each city. Several national corporations have moved their headquarters to the area and an abundance of colleges and universities are located within the cities. Excellent medical facilities offer complete health care and the Triad area of North Carolina has become a favorite choice of retirees with several retirement communities either under construction or recently completed.
