Southern Shores is a planned ocean to sound community, and is just 25 years old. Visitors will find quiet relaxation in this residential community that is just minutes from area attractions. In winter the population stays steady at 2,600 but swells to 10,000 in the summer months. This water filled community has plenty to offer residents and visitors alike. Located on The Outer Banks, Southern Shores is part of a greater whole. The Outer Banks is a beautiful strip of sand that lies 40 miles inside the Gulf Stream and is accessible only by bridges, planes and boats. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and brackish bodies of water called sounds, these barrier islands are a paradise to sportsmen, vacationers and explorers both young and old.
