Weddington, North Carolina

Population: 6,696
Located in Mecklenburg County

Weddington is located in the heart of Union County's horse country. Incorporated in 1983, Weddington is primarily residential with only 16 acres zoned for business. It's also wealthy; its residents have the highest per capita income of any town in the state.

Once rural, Weddington is now suburban Charlotte. Interspersed with horse farms and country estates are new subdivisions with acre-plus lots. Residents have moved to the area looking for a country atmosphere and homes with acreage that are just a short commute from Charlotte's amenities.

The focal point of Weddington is Weddington Corners, a shopping center with a supermarket, medical offices and other small businesses. Nearby is the Weddington Town Hall in the historic Thomas-Wrenn house, a Victorian built in 1894.

Weddington is located in western Union County, Charlotte's next door neighbor. With its rolling hills and variety of lifestyle choices from new suburban neighborhoods to golf course communities to rural hideaways, family farms, and country estates, Union County offers a reasonable cost of living, excellent schools, relatively low taxes, growing business opportunities, and excellent access to Charlotte's business centers, airport, and cultural and shopping facilities.
