Columbus is Ohio's fastest-growing city and state capitol. The city experienced an 11% increase in population between 1990 and 2000, while maintaining a relatively low median age of 31 years of age. Much of the growth can be attributed to aggressive commercial development, including the Brewery District, the newly-completed Nationwide Arena (which houses the city's NHL Blue Jackets team)and the restoration of older builders throughout the city and in the area just north of downtown. Columbus boasts a superior system of highways, including north-south and east-west interstates, an inner belt, and an outer belt, all of which provide easy access to destinations within Columbus and to the city's numerous suburbs, both of which have grown in recent years to accommodate the influx of new residents. While Columbus is quickly adding to its list of notable attractions, the city is well-grounded both culturally and scholastically. As the home of The Ohio State University, Columbus is host to numerous educational events, owing to the university's diverse student body. In addition, Ohio State adds to the city's sporting entertainment, with Buckeye football and basketball, among others. Columbus hosts special events throughout the year, including Red, White & Boom!, the Columbus Jazz & RibFest, and the Columbus Arts Festival.
