Gahanna, Ohio

Population: 32,636

Located in Franklin County

Gahanna was founded in 1849 by John Clark of Ross County from land that his father, Joseph Clark, purchased in 1814 from Governor Washington. Clark originally named this Gahanna Plantation. Gahanna Plantation and a local town called Bridgeport eventually merged into one. Since there was already a Bridgeport, Ohio, the name Gahanna was chosen. 55 Citizens of Gahanna petitioned Franklin County to incorporate the village in March of 1881. This was granted in June and recorded on August 8, 1881. The village was then able to hold it's first mayoral election and on October 6, 1881, L. John Neiswander was sworn in.
