Gambier, Ohio

Population: 1,871
Located in Knox County

Gambier is ideally situated in Knox County and only five miles away from Mount Vernon. As the home of Kenyon College, during the school year, Gambier is the site of many athletic, academic and artistic attractions for visitors.

The area features a number of golf courses, the Kokosing Gap Trail, antiquing, canoeing and many other distractions. The Kokosing Gap Trail is nicely paved and provides a wonderful path for walking, jogging, biking and rollerblading. The Trail makes an ideal place for vigorous exercise. It's easy to note distances and to mark progress in physical fitness programs. On the other side of the coin, the Trail can be used for a leisurely walk.

It's not uncommon to see deer, hear the gobbles of wild turkeys or see a blue heron skimming the top of the river looking for food. In spring and summer, the wild flowers provide a beautiful border for the softly rolling hills and cultivated fields. As the seasons change, so does the scenery along the path. Summer greens give way to the bright oranges, reds and browns of autumn and then again to the dull-beauty of winter.

Gambier offers housing to suit all tastes and needs. There is something for everyone - first-time home buyers, families ready to move up, older couples looking for a care-free lifestyle or executives in search of a spacious retreat. Century-old homes lend stately elegance to some sections of the city and the county. Many historic brick and frame homes are attractively restored.

And if you enjoy animals, why not the make the drive to come and see the wonderful Columbus Zoo and Aquarium? The zoo is located in Delaware County, and is nationally known for its wonderful exhibits. Right next door to the zoo is Wyandot Lake, a huge water amusement park. Be prepared to get wet and have fun if you venture there!

Or maybe you would enjoy the cultural environment provided by a liberal arts university. Ohio Wesleyan University offers an annual Performing Arts and Lecture Series, and is the home base for the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra which performs many annual concerts, including a Fourth of July concert prior to Delaware's fireworks display. The university also stages many drama productions, and hosts numerous musical events, in addition to hosting frequent student and faculty art exhibits.

With all this and so much more, it is easy to see why Gambier is the place to put your money on and move to!
