Ohio Real Estate & Relocation Guide

Madison, Ohio

Population: 2,921

Located in Lake County

Our main industry in Madison is the nursery business because of the excellent sandy soil conditions and the temperate climate. We also have a number of prize-winning wineries in the area, due to the clay soil and temperate climate.

Recreation can be found in abundance, with Lake Erie and the Grand River providing opportunities for swimming, boating, canoeing, and fishing. The East End YMCA (Madison is at the east end of Lake County.) has racket ball, an indoor track room, weight rooms, and a wonderful swimming pool. Golf is available at a number of courses in and around Madison, ranging from a Lake Metropark public course to the Madison Country Club, for members only. Community theater has been an important part of our summers at Rabbit Run Theater, the last remaining barn theater in Ohio.

Madison's children are the center of our universe, and the schools reflect it. We have art and music classes throughout the system, and physical education is also stressed. Our teachers are well-educated, caring people who do all they can to see that every child gets what he needs. Our school board is committed to providing a quality education for all our children, and to preparing them for higher education and the work force, as well as helping them to become contributing members of their community.

We have access to a number of colleges and universities, including Lakeland Community College, just a half hour away in Kirtland, and Lake Erie College in Painesville, just 20 minutes away. Akron University, Kent State University, Cleveland State University, John Carroll University and Baldwin Wallace College are also close by.

All the advantages of small-town America are here, including summer concerts in the Park, midget league sports for the children, and a number of organizations that offer the opportunity to participate, including the American Association of University Women, the Western Reserve Fine Arts Association, the Lions Club, the Kiwanis, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and many others.
