It is also a tangible illustration of the history of the community, as the homes range in age from the farmhouses of the early 1800's through the Civil War, Victorian, early 1920's and later times to the new house developments of the new millennium.

Although the homes are of different ages, they make a compatible and attractive whole. In recognition of this asset to the community, the need to preserve it for the future, North Olmsted City Council has designated Butternut Ridge Road as an historical district.

The city also offers one of the largest municipal 18 hole golf courses in the area, Springvale. Springvale Ballroom and Golf Course- is a link from the past to the future. George Biddulph built the ballroom on hiss family's farm in 1923. The golf course was added a few years later. The City of North Olmsted purchased Springvale in 1994 not only preserved a piece of local history and a large area of green space, but also gained an attractive golf/ballroom facility in the process. Hole 11 is known as one of the area's most challenging golf holes. Recent renovations to the course include the recent expansion of the first tee. planned repairs to the parking lot and irrigation of the fairways will continue improving the facility, making it an even greater asset to the city in the Future.
