Ohio Real Estate & Relocation Guide

North Ridgeville, Ohio

Population: 22,338

Located in Lorain County

Founded in 1810 by German and English settlers, the area was named for the five lake ridges that divide the community running nearly parallel to Lake Erie, nine miles to the north. These ridges are thought to be former beach lines left by the receding waters of Lake Erie, thousands of years ago during the earth's formation.

The first industries here included saw and grist mills, as well as a chair and cheese factory. Farming was a way of life that became more important and productive as the lands were cleared and the availability of the rich, sandy soil discovered.

The entire 25 square mile township was incorporated as a village in 1958 and as a City in 1960. North Ridgeville is a relatively young City with residential character. The median age of the residents is 31.5, making our City the youngest of all Lorain County communities. The median household income is $41,095 and the total households is 8,500. Developed with a wide range of home values to over $300,000 and an attractive tax base for the area, the median home value is $113,000. The 1995 residential taxing rate was $62.56.

There are several small to medium sized shopping centers and professional buildings located along Center Ridge and Lorain Roads. That area also includes a variety of motels and restaurants to accommodate the preferences of everyone.

Two-thirds of the City is yet to be developed, including 1,200 acres of industrial land, portions of which are included in three industrial parks. With easy access to major highways, North Ridgeville is home to nearly 500 small businesses and industries. The Administration, City Council and the Tax Abatement Review Board are progressive and actively seeking new businesses and industry. Continually striving for a better way of life, the citizens, elected officials and business community are working together to positively impact this growing City.
