Somerset, Ohio

Population: 1,549
Located in Perry County

The Somerset Courthouse was commenced in 1828, this Federal styled building was Perry County's first true courthouse. The edifice is the oldest continuously in service public building in the Old Northwest Territory (1787). It has been called a jewel and the finest piece of Federal Heartland Architecture extant.

The Perry County Historical Society owns and operates a circa 1840 home located 1 block South of Somerset's Public Square. It serves as a museum, gift shop, meeting place and focal point for the society. The house was purchased by the society in 1980 so that it could be saved from being torn down.

Many volunteers have spent countless hours helping to restore our house. It features a working 1930s kitchen, Victorian parlor and bedroom. The restoration is an ongoing project.
