Terrace Park, Ohio

Terrace Park is a community of less than 900 dwellings, all in single family homes along tree-lined streets. Most village services are carried out by volunteers ? the Fire Department, Life Squad, the Recreation Committee, the Garden Club, The Village Views (Neighborhood newspaper), and many other groups that encourage the spirit of volunteerism.

Both physical in spirit, Terrace Park is a product of its environment. At the eastern edge of Hamilton County, Ohio, it is cut off to the south and east by the Little Miami River, to the north by steep slopes of the Village of Indian Hill, and to the west by an undeveloped state parkland (Kroger Hill). This relative isolation has helped to create a close-knit community of home lovers, described by many as "a great place to bring up kids."

Terrace Park's Urban Forestry initiative began with the planting of 1600 trees in the late 1890's. Although there was some criticism of species selection, spacing and even utility pruning as early as 1911, these trees continued to flourish. Given care, protection and good growing conditions a large number of these specimens were recorded in an inventory prepared in 1982. The average life of a tree under urban conditions is about 60 years. Many of the original plantings have approached the century mark and continue to contribute to the quality of life in Terrace Park. A comprehensive Urban Forestry program established in 1983 will continue to provide the Village with the many benefits it has received from the original plantings.

Though Terrace Park had its beginning in a pioneer fort, built only weeks after establishment of the settlement that was to become Cincinnati. It has retained much of that early, independent "do-it-yourself spirit."

With a great location, Terrace Park is a prime place for those looking to have more elbow room, but the price for a home in this area is a little higher than other villages or towns. The average price for a starter home is $125,000, and most single family homes with three bedrooms and 1,500 square feet is around $169,000. Homes built on several acres move into the $200+ range.

With so many amenities, and a quiet country feel, is it any wonder that Terrace Park has become the popular choice for those looking to relocate to a rural area, while still being close enough to major cities for employment. The benefits of Terrace Park cannot be overstated. Come and check it out for yourselves!
