The City of Trenton is rich in history, in 1799 the city was established by Michael Pearce of New Jersey which was originally a parcel of 1,500 acres stretching from the Miami River on the east, to the present State Street on the north, and on towards the present Wayne Madison Road as the western boundary. Growth was slow in the village and it was not until 1971 that the population had grown to the required 5,000 to be classified as a city. By the 1990 census, the population of the city had increased to 6,100 and today the population is almost 9,000.

Trenton Schools are actually in the Edgewood school district, which serves the communities of Jacksonburg, Seven Mile, and the Trenton. The district has three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.
