It is known that the city of Upper Arlington was established in 1913 by King and Ben Thompson, with the purchase of 840 acres. William Pitkin, Jr., a planning professional recruited by the Thompson brothers, designed a community with 2,500 residential lots, Upper Arlington was one of the nation's first planned communities. In 1976 the Upper Arlington Historical Society was formed to conserve and research the history of the area. The collection so far contains blueprints of homes, photos, histories, letters, maps, relevant slides, and genealogies of early Upper Arlington residents and much more.
