WELCOME to WILLOUGHBY, the "Courtesy City"! Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Willoughby strives to maintain it's small-town atmosphere. The public square remains much unchanged with the first business area still being used today...with the store facades capturing a vivid expression of the past. Each year the city hosts the "Frontiers Day Celebration", which includes a complete Indian/frontiers reservation setup in one of the city parks. Some residents dress in traditional clothing of the period and spend a few days living on the reservation during the Frontiers Day Celebration.

Some residential areas are made up of older, Western Reserve style homes, as seen in what is referred to as "Old Willoughby" while other areas have more traditional housing. There are also new developments in the area.

Shopping areas, including Shoregate Mall, Will-Plaza and the Great Lakes Mall are all within a 10 minute drive and offer a wide variety of department stores and specialty shops. Downtown Willoughby offers many quaint shops and specialty stores also.

The closest international airport is Cleveland Hopkins with Burke Lakefront. Cuyahoga County Airport and Willoughby's own Lost National airport offer unlimited advantages and conveniences, all of which is within a 1/2 hour drive.

Willoughby boasts of the Willoughby-Eastlake School System and its many awards including the 1993 Blue Ribbon Award recognizing it as a National School of Excellence by the U.S. Board of Education. Lakeland Community College sits on the city limits and just east of downtown Willoughby is the 300 acre campus of Andrews School for Girls, an independent college-preparatory day/boarding school for grades 6-12. Andrews has an accredited college acceptance rate of 100%.

For arts, recreation and leisure, the Willoughby Parks and Recreation Dept. offers 12 parks, a city pool and playground, the Browning Sr. Citizen Center, the Lost Nation Mini Golf Course and various other programs throughout the year.
